Origin

Shawn Taylor was a bright young lad. He was the proverbial prodigy and excelled at all intellectual pursuits. His college graduation, at age twelve, made the national news. His invention of mylex at age seventeen changed the worlds of robotics and cyborganics practically over night. When he came of age, his life changed.

In addition to his phenomenal mental capacity, the young Mr. Taylor was gifted with the ability to collect and control electrical energy. Without the benefit of Academy training, it is likely that his more incredible abilities would remain an interesting diversion in an otherwise meteoric rise to scientific achievement, but also that his life would not have been so drastically shortened.

Living proof of the Einsteinian theory of a human existing in a pure energy state, Shawn was capable of making use of one hundred percent of his brain capacity. His exertions, both mental and physical, quickly took their toll, and his body died of old age when Shawn was twenty five.

Unable to cope with the loss of his mother and the apparent death of his father, Shawn's son ran away from home and has only recently been discovered living on the streets of Empire City.

Blitzkrieg was, however, far from dead. Forced to wear a containment suit to prevent his energy dispersing into the environment, Shawn continued his work in both the scientific and heroic spheres. He soon discovered that, in using his powers, he was, quite literally, losing his mind.

At first, it was small things: the names of casual acquaintences, dates of small significance, the subjects in school he had been less fond of. It seemed a small price to pay for peace. His childhood memories vanished, his earliest lessons departed, but he persisted in his work, convinced that what he did made the world a better place, sometimes even for just one person.

Blitzkrieg has finite power, the very energy of his life and his mind, and expending it in the cause of righteousness on behalf of the weak chips away at the very core of the man's being. His research has slowed as he must relearn old lessons or depend on the assistance of others whose minds do not so easily slip away. He does his level best to make use of his phenomenal abilities only when absolutely necessary. He is slipping away.

Eventually, Blitzkrieg will have forgotten everything: his late wife, his son, his own name. All that will be left of him is his mission: to bring peace and freedom to all mankind. In fighting the good fight, he gives of himself in a more real way than any other being in the Known Paradigms.

May all beings look to Blitzkrieg and know what being a hero is really about.

Blitzkrieg, whose name means "lightening war", may well be Earth's greatest hero. Knowing full well the terrible, personal cost of his every deed, he persists in doing what he knows is right.

Shawn's greatest sorrow is the loss of his son. Many times he has sought out his wayward child and every time has the child spurned his father. Of all the people Blitzkrieg has saved, his son remains the one just beyond his reach.

In spite of the tragedy of his family and his existence, Shawn is almost pathologically jovial. He looks consistently on the bright side, a tested and true optimist, and is usually a beacon of hope in a dark and stormy night for both colleagues and strangers. While depression would be easy, it is not in Blitzkrieg's nature to brood or even complain. He represents the best in Humanity with his every deed.

There are some who claim that his selfless devotion to righteousness is penance for younger days when he earned his hero name, fighting secret wars for the United States government. While possible, it is unlikely. Blitzkrieg says he got his name because his father liked war movies and he thought that "lightning war" sounded "really cool". While he will not hesitate to take the life of one who threatens those of others, the burden of his own sin weighs heavily on his heart.
